Day 91, 92 & 93

October 5th, 6th & 7th, 2007

Lake Powell, Utah/Arizona.

<< avant / before

           after /  après >>

There are no words to describe this place so...We'll just throw pictures at you!

Daybreak.

So unreal...Even the martians are here!

A nice spot on the beach.

There are no specific sites...First come, first served.

That's just close enough to the water for France!

Unfortunately, a cold front (relatively cold...) brings windy conditions, very windy! (Take a look at the tent on the prvious pic...)

...It also brings a few clouds...

A perfect spot for off-roading, Lake Powell is a toys lovers' paradise. All toys are welcome here! Dune buggies, quads, moto-crosses, jeeps, boats, personnal watercrafts, name it!

Click on the photo for a better look.

Yeah ! We are back to Lake Powell !!
Yeah ! We found this place by pure chance in 2000. We could'nt wait to get back here!
Bof... A sand storm...
Bof... The weatherman is'nt cooperating with us here. It's kind of coolish and we're facing the worst winds since the beginning of the trip. The sand gets into everything! In your eyes, your ears, your clothes, the tent, everywhere...

Despite the cool breeze, a (cold) shower is a must to try to get rid of some of that sand...

Regretfully, we decide to move up further from the water to try and be out of wind and off the sandy beach.

It's 2:00am...We look at the tent flapping in the wind, will it make it through the night? Never before was it tortured like that. Marc gets up in the middle of the night (we're not sleeping, anyway...) to install an extra pole because the existing ones are bending dangerously...He also parks the quad besides the tent to diminish the effect of the wind on the side of the tent.

Pfiou...In the morning we see the last clouds roll away, the tent is still up!

It's so much nicer under a bright blue sky...Still cold, though...

Unrelated to the story:

Fresh beef is on special at Walmart, this week!

The sand storm is over and it's time for an oil change and a quick check up of the quads. The black one made some funny noises on the way down here...
OK! Everything is cool!
The drive belt is just like new, the oil is changed and the suspensions are greased up. Ready for another 1000 miles! Could'nt see anything wrong with the bikes.

Note that the used oil is picked up and dropped off at the next service station.

Some more angles of view...

Lake Powell is also "house-boat paradise". You can rent one that holds about 10 people for the "reasonnable" amount of about $1000 a week, not counting food and fuel, of course...

The lake, created by the construction of the Glen canyon Dam, is actually the colorado river. Since it's 185 miles long and has countless bays (the lakes perimiter is over 2000 miles long...), you will always find a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the water or to party with friends and family. Sounds like an interesting family vacation, does'nt it?

Oh! Moving time!

Of course, what we see from here is just a tiny part of the lake. It's called Wah Weap bay.

In 2000...

Understand why we felt like coming back?

...In 2007...

Lone Rock, in the background.

Here too, days are too short.

In the morning, a last look at Lake Powell...We're going to have to come back again, here too...

En route to Page. Come on, Arizona!
